Morris Animal Foundation is funding research to develop a device that delivers molecular iodine (an oral antiseptic) into a dogs drinking water. Because iodine doesn’t dissolve easily in water, doctors have created a radio frequency identification triggered delivery system (RFID).
Pets wear a RFID transmitter on their collars that sends a signal to the water reservoir when they go to take a drink. The reservoir then releases a small amount of molecular iodine into the circulating water, turning it into a cool cocktail for clean mouths.
So far, preliminary results have been promising.
