Kippy Pet Tracker

20/05/2015

“why should our iphones have more security than our pets do?”

In a world where our dogs are trained better in our mind than in reality, even the most perfect dog will give into the temptation of wondering off to smell the freshest fox poo on a walk or to find just the perfect tree to lift it’s leg on. In times like these, when our “Puppy 101” class training is hopeless and even the smell of Fido’s favourite treat is not doing the job of bringing him back, we all just wish we had a magic wand or a GPS tracker to get the little scoundrel back. Introducing Kippy, the GPS tracker for your pet. When your dog or cat has its Kippy collar on, you can track it movements directly from your smartphone, tablet or computer which means that the chances of losing Fido are slim and your sanity levels should start to rise (always a good thing!)

We received our Kippy from Doggy & Co who offer an online shopping experience unlike any other we have come across. Their aim is to use technology to provide a level of service to Dog owners that has so far only been hinted at on the internet. They offer a tailor made shopping experience that takes your dog breed, age and lifestyle into account (just like going to the local, friendly pet shop). We highly recommend you pay them at visit at Doggy & Co

The Kippy tracking device also works abroad (which is perfect for our many trips to France) and my dogs LOVE this product. It is easy to wear (even for Puppy Jester) and is not bulky or cumbersome. It comes in 3 different colours so should suit most peoples aesthetics.

canismarritiThe Kippy is so simple to use. We downloaded the app from the online store. It has a clean and easy to understand interface that helped us find Folly when she went off on an adventure with another pomeranian (seriously she has no loyalty at all!!!).

The Kippy app not only lets you see where your pet is on the map, but also gives you an inbuilt compass and directions to take to reach your missing pet. You also have the option to set up a virtual fence and receive an alert if your pet leaves the area that you selected.

We LOVE this and it is probably one of the best products we have tried this year. The only snag is that the service is currently only available in Europe, India and South Africa but I really hope that it expands to include North and South America soon.

When I was talking to fellow dog loving friend and entrepreneur about this product, her response was that every dog owner needed this, and why should our iphones have more security than our dogs?

In a dream world, we wish that our dogs all had perfect recall but let’s face it, mistakes happen and the price of a Kippy is high at £150, but what is the price of losing your dog?

Oh my gosh, that is absolutely brilliant. And I love that fact that you also have the option to set up a virtual fence and get an alert if your pet leaves the area. Losing a pet is like losing a family member. I wonder if they have anything like this to use on young children and seniors who are having memory problems.

Diana, there are now watches and jewelry with GPS trackers in which are perfect for kids and the elderly. They are all pretty new to the market but I would personally invest in one so my family knew I was safe when abroad.
The fence idea on the Kippy is fantastic as it means that you get an instant alert as soon as Fido has gone wondering. Perfect when on vacation when City Dog’s may have access to a garden or beach

Having read your article on Kippy, I can’t wait for this to be available in the U.S. I would absolutely buy it for my girls. The thought of them ever going missing terrifies me.

I confess I have sleepless nights at times thinking about the same thing Jennifer. I hope it becomes available in the USA soon as it is brilliant

This looks like a really cool product, too bad I’m in the US! Congrats to the winner and especially to the winner’s dog =)

This sounds like a great product! Imagine how many dogs could avoid being put in the shelter if they were wearing this.

  6. Susan says:

Looks like a great device. As you say, the price of losing a dog is way higher.

  7. Val Silver says:

This could be a real blessing for dogs that tend to take themselves for walks. I worry a little if they emit radiation like cell phones and all do, but if the dog’s a runner, it would be a risk worth taking.

    • City Dog Expert says:

We had not thought about the radiation aspect but I am sure is pet safe and only designed for off lead explorers anyway so would not be on constantly (unlike my phone that is glued to me!)

This sounds like a great product. I really like the idea of a virtual fence and alert system. That’s amazing. Too bag it’s not available in the U.S. Thanks for sharing!

I love these types of products. My questions are
    – what is the range in each type of environment (urban, rural with hills, rural without hills, rural with dense forest)
    – how often is the information updated
    – how well does it work in bad weather
    – how long does the battery last
    – are there only specific service providers with whom this service works

    • City Dog Expert says:

      Hey Jana,
All the answers are in the FAQ section of the website I have linked. 🙂
I had similar questions myself and so far the battery is great

Lately I’ve been seeing lost dog rewards on the internet of over $1000 and more – so in comparison, that’s not so expensive. Dogs really aren’t always as loyal as they’re cracked up to be!

  13. Victoria Carter says:

We have a few services like that here in the states, my biggest question is; Is it waterproof? We do a lot of canoeing and while our pups stay close, it would be nice to know where they are at all times, and with the proximity to water we would need something that is protected from water.

If it is, then I seriously hope they decide to branch out to the US market! I’d be interested in one for each or our four dogs!

    • City Dog Expert says:

Great question. The Kippy is indeed waterproof so is perfect to use on canoeing adventures
